Maureen's Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Miami University in Ohio shows
a major in Design. She has since studied under Don Ruffin, Adrian Hansen,
and Vincent Farrell. She became active in the Scottsdale Artists' League
and was juried into the Arizona Artists' Guild. She has won many awards
in art shows throughout the state and has taught workshops and juried many
shows for local art groups, the State Fair children's art exhibit and others.
She has taught oil painting for about twenty-five years in her own studio
and other art facilities, including the Phoenix Art Museum. From 1980 to
1995, she worked as technical illustrator for the U-Haul Technical center
in Tempe. After moving to Prescott in 1995, Maureen served as Chairperson
of the Visual Arts Committee of Prescott Fine Arts Association in 1997 and
1998 and was active on the committee until 2003. She is also a member of
the Southwest Artists' Association and Mountain Artists' Guild. Currently,
her objective works are painted with palette knife in oils over an
under-painting of acrylic. Her subject matter includes landscape,
an occasional portrait, Native American subject matter, and florals.
Her work is rather loose and utilizes clean, bright color.
Maureen also finds non-objective or abstract work exciting and stimulating.
These pieces are primarily done in acrylic, or mixed media and collage.
She also finds working with collage and acrylic glazes over gold or
silver leaf on canvas quite exciting. She has won many awards in art
shows throughout the state, including the State Fair, Glendale Show,
Guild Shows, League Shows, and Prescott Fine Arts Gallery. Over the years
she has juried many shows for local art groups, the State Fair children's
art exhibit and others. She is currently represented by the Frame & I Gallery
in Prescott, AZ.
